It might be a little too early to call this given that it’s March 14, but unknown Minnesota Twins catcher Willians Astudillo probably made the best defensive play you’ll see by a catcher this year.
The non-roster invitee wowed everyone Monday night, as he took pickoff throws to first next level by adding a slick no-look element. As you can see in the above video, Astudillo fooled the hell out of Yankees outfielder Shane Robinson and had him out by a mile.
Astudillo, 26, is just 2-12 this spring, and has never made it up to the big leagues, but this viral moment might help his cause. Also, the guy slashed .342/.370/.558 in AAA last season, which some might consider pretty good.
