Update: TMZ is reporting these two got engaged after Vasquez beat his girlfriend in this video: Danry Vasquez and his girlfriend are describing themselves as a “happy couple”
The video of baseball player Danry Vasquez beating his girlfriend in the stairwell of a Double-A ballpark back in 2016 was finally released to the public this week after an open records request by a news channel. The video is about as disturbing as it gets and led to a misdemeanor that was eventually dismissed after Vasquez completed a plea deal that included paying a fine and attending classes.
Uh, ok. Watch the video. It speaks volumes. Vasquez, a native of Venezuela, has played in his native country since the incident, but he recently signed with the Lancaster Barnstormers of the Atlantic League.
From Fox News:
A news channel in Corpus Christi, Texas, on Tuesday obtained video that reportedly shows a violent incident that invovled a former Major League Baseball prospect and his girlfriend.
The KRIS report said police identified the man in the video as Danry Vasquez, a former prospect for the Houston Astros. The man in the 2016 video could be seen striking the woman several times in a stairwell at Whataburger Field, home to the Double-A Hooks, the report said.
Vasquez, who signed with the Tigers for $1.2 million as a 16-year-old and was in the Astros organization during the stairwell incident, got his walking papers this week from the Lancaster Barnstormers after the video was released. His Instagram page has also been closed. I’m not sure why Danry has gone dark.
