Say hello to the next great debate topic on all the hot take shows and the hot take sports social media accounts. Wait until Facebook hears about how the Atlanta Braves want stud prospect Ronald Acuna to wear his hat the right way. Uh, remember when Ken Griffey Jr. came into baseball and wore his hat backwards and freaked out a generation of uptight white guys? I do.
It’s not like Acuna is even wearing his hat some crazy way. It’s just resting on top of his head. I’m a very white guy & I wear mine like that nearly every morning when I’m taking the kids to school and then when I go through Chick-fil-A. The Braves should stop being uptight nerdy white guys just a little bit.
The Braves want Acuna to wear his hat straight and maintain a professional appearance while in uniform. But they do not want to change much about the fun-loving, flamboyant approach that has made him one of the game’s most exciting young players.
“The main thing he needs to remember is keep your head straight and respect [your surroundings],” Jones said. “Be humble, but a humble-cocky.”
Here’s a thought: leave the kid alone with the hat stuff.
His 2017 in the minors: .325…21 HRs….82 RBI…44 SBs. Acuna did all that at 19! Just be thankful for a second that you hit the lottery when you signed this kid for $100,000 out of Venezuela back in 2014.
