Japanese Snowboarder Yuto Totsuka Crashes Hard in Halfpipe Final

16-year-old Japanese snowboarder Yuto Totsuka’s Olympic debut ended on a horrifying note as he took a nasty spill during his run in the men’s halfpipe final.
As you can see below, Yuto got way too much air on his first jump and ended up hitting the lip of the pipe before dropping like 20 feet headfirst into the snow. He was eventually tended to by medical officials and stretchered off.

While that photo of Yuto in a bodybag looks bad, the USA Today’s Rachel Axon has good news and reports Japan’s camp doesn’t believe this is a serious injury:


The USA’s Shaun White ended up winning the gold in this event, while Yuto placed 11th.
