The Marlins still haven’t traded away star catcher J.T. Realmuto, but they did take care of some housekeeping on Monday by firing the man employed as their mascot (Billy the Marlin). SiriusXM’s Craig Mish dropped the mascot bombshell on Twitter — he did note the mascot itself will wasn’t canned, just the employee:
Source : The Marlins have terminated the man inside the suit of Billy the Marlin. Marlins spokesman says Billy himself has not been fired. He will remain Marlins Mascot, played by someone else.

The new Marlins regime apparently did not care for the 14 years of service the guy provided, which shouldn’t shock anyone at this point:
Billy the Marlin was played by the same person for 14 years.

In case you were wondering, the Marlins don’t have a job listing posted for the Billy the Marlin position as of yet. We’re assuming they’d love a mascot “intern” they can give college credit to.
