The first step for Lane Kiffin to land with a big-time program again is to get back in the good graces of America and college football fans alike. He’s screwed over so many fan bases and pissed so many people off, that seemed like there was no chance he got back to a Power 5 school.
But this is a good first step. While Hurricane Irma was doing its best to wipe out the entire state of Florida this week, FAU was stuck in Madison preparing for their game this Saturday against Bethune-Cookman. Wisconsin let the team use their facilities all week and as an expression of their gratitude, Kiffin bought this full-page ad in the Wisconsin State Journal this morning.
Dear Badger Nation,
Thank You! You have opened your hearts to our football program for the past six days in our time of need. Every single person on campus and in the community was kind and courteous. The Badger Football Team even shared their home with us and made our stay as comfortable as possible. We are forever indebted to the Wisconsin Athletic Department, Athletic Director Barry Alvarez and Head Coach Paul Chryst for their collective generosity. We wish you nothing but the best of luck with the rest of your football season. ON WISCONSIN!
Florida Atlantic University Head Football Coach
And just like that, in one fell swoop, Kiffin is BACK. This classy gesture is what needed to win people back over. He needed to show that soft side a little bit. You know, show that he has an ounce of empathy somewhere in there.
Now all he has to do is win a few ball games with his “Last Chance U” roster and the phone is going to be off the hook.
