Indiana Neighbors Who’ve Been Fighting Since 2009 Trade Gunfire After ‘Your Mom’ Joke, No Charges Filed

It’s the Wild West out there. Need proof? Take the case of two neighbors near Greenwood, Indiana who traded gunfire last week after a ‘Your mom’ joke led to both men pulling guns as one guy rode on his riding lawn mower. Turns out these two have been at war with each other since 2009 and it finally led to one neighbor taking a bullet in the chest.

Here’s how it went down:

“Is your mom out here.”

“Smell your upper lip.”

One thing leads to another and they’re in a shootout. And the audio on that video might be the best shootout audio you’ll hear all week. Incredible.

From the Indy Star:

The June 27 showdown was captured on security video, Cooper said, noting it clearly shows Jeffrey S. Weigle, 59, raising a handgun just before Dean Keller, 49, shot him multiple times in the 1200 block of Campbell Road just east of Greenwood.

Keller claimed self-defense. Cooper agreed.

“The decision to not file charges on Keller was a simple application of Indiana law and should not be looked upon as condoning the behavior of either party,” Cooper said.

OK, so I have to agree here. If you’re going to pull a gun on the neighbor you’re fighting with, don’t expect charges after he caps your ass.

Here’s where things get real interesting.

The neighbors have been in a long-running dispute. Keller and Weigle have clashed more than a dozen times since 2009, according to Johnson County Sheriff’s Office reports.

The men argued about a range of things, including the location of a fence, Keller’s dogs and Weigle’s motorcycle.

On Sept. 9, 2011, officers arrested both men on battery charges after a fight. During the scuffle, Keller was stabbed in the arm and Weigle suffered cuts, scratches and bite wounds, according to a police report.

This Weigle character doesn’t even own the home next door. He rents a room and took the gun from the homeowner. How about the balls on this guy.

The old codger pulls the gun first:

Firefighter Dean Keller was packing for obvious reasons…in case he had to defend himself against that old codger:
