Kyle Petty stopped by this week (11:14 mark) to tell us about his upcoming charity motorcycle ride —@KPCharityRide — that will be leaving Portland, Oregon May 13 and ending May 19 in Milwaukee. This will be the 23rd year for the ride that raises money for one of the best causes I’ve heard of in sports. The money goes to Victory Junction, a camp for kids with serious illnesses who need a getaway to be kids and enjoy life away from hospitals and their daily problems.
Petty walks us through how he selects riders to go along on the adventure and the big names who’ll be joining him. We also hear about how Richard Petty will disappear from time to time on the ride and what he’s up to when he disappears.
He also tells some old school NASCAR stories about how things were back in the day, especially how it was back in 1979 when he entered his first Talladega race. Don’t miss that one, especially if you have any kind of special place in your heart for old school racin (26:40 mark).
He might be turning 80 this year, but that isn't slowing him down…Excited to have my dad back for the @KPCharityRide! #worldsgreatestdad pic.twitter.com/NrwYwYVcul
