NFL Draft Moms: Meet Randi Mahomes

Our NFL draft moms feature rolls on today with Randi Mahomes, the mother of Texas Tech QB Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes is interesting in this draft because he’s one of those guys who’s shot up draft boards in the time between the season ending and now. With the combine and pro days over the last couple of months, he’s found himself on a lot of teams’ radars.

Here’s the bottom line from his draft profile:

Mahomes is a big, confident quarterback who brings a variety of physical tools to the party, but he’s developed some bad habits and doesn’t have a very repeatable process as a passer. Mahomes’ ability to improvise and extend plays can lead to big plays for his offense, but he will have to prove he can operate with better anticipation and be willing to take what the defense gives him in order to win from the pocket. Mahomes will be a work in progress, but he’s a high ceiling, low floor prospect.

He’s also Mel Kiper’s favorite QB in the draft and has him most likely going in the first round tonight, potentially as high as 13 to Arizona. Other teams that I’ve seen are possibly New Orleans to learn behind Brees for a little bit and also the 49ers if he falls to them at the beginning of the second round.

We’ll see, this is one of the most unpredictable drafts in a long time, but one thing is certain — his mother will be supporting him no matter what.
