Rickie Weeks and Brett Gardner Involved in Violent First Base Collision

Rickie Weeks has been around for a long ass time (13 seasons, to be specific), but up until this season he had never played first base. His inexperience at the position certainly reared its head this afternoon when he straight up got walloped by a charging Brett Gardner:

Unsurprisingly, both players had to leave the game after getting blown up — the collision again in real-time:

Weeks on playing first base back in February (via MLB.com):

“Playing baseball, like I always said, you just want to go out there and play some baseball the best way possible,” Weeks said. “Every time I cross the lines, I’m confident. I’ve done all the work in practices, ground balls, football, and all of that. So when it comes time for game time, just play. That’s what I try to do.”
