A lot of coverage has been dedicated to the disgusting water at the Rio Olympics, but apparently athletes should also be wary of an appliance in their rooms — the air conditioner!
The Associated Press reported today that Irish cyclist Nicolas Roche contracted bacterial pneumonia during his stay in Rio. He took to Twitter to place some blame on a “bad aircon:”
Having a hard last few days..not been easy.. Probably contracted the virus with a bad aircon in rio.. Really unlucky. Gutted actualy.

To make matters worse for Nicolas, he’s going to miss the the Vuelta a Espana race which begins on Aug. 20.
I hope to be ready to race again early september. Still some racing to be done this year

Roche finished 29th in the Olympics Road Race after he dropped a chain.
Chain drop at the bottom of the 3rd last climb just killed me. Never recovered making it back to the front! But thats racing.

Suffice it to say, a tough Olympics experience for the Irishman.
