Those four words: “Show me the money.” Leigh Steinberg says he still can’t walk through an airport without random sports fans saying those four words to them even though the 20th anniversary of the Jerry Maguire release is this December. As you know, Jerry Maguire was written by Cameron Crowe to reflect the life Steinberg led as the most important sports agent in the game.
Now 67, Steinberg is making up for lost time after five year absence in the game as he battled alcohol addiction. He’s back to representing draft picks – Paxton Lynch 12th overall to the Broncos – and seems to be busier than ever. There’s the Leigh Steinberg Agent Academy where you can learn from the legend in a one-day seminar where you’ll learn quickly whether the agent game is for you.
And there’s all the trimmings that go along with being an agent that Steinberg has to handle. The golf with Paxton Lynch’s dad that, to Leigh, doesn’t seem like work.
Leigh hits on several topics in this interview (8:40 mark) that you’ll enjoy.
• The State of the Agent Game
• Joey Bosa’s (not his client) holdout situation and why he’s holding out
• Should NFL players be allowed to smoke pot
