Johnny Manziel may be currently unemployed, hemorrhaging money left and right on booze, lawyer fees, and Bieber tickets, and selling his home in suburban Cleveland, Ohio, but that doesn’t mean that he’s broke just yet.

Johnny Manziel’s Net Worth as of 2016: $4 Million

Here’s a look at the winding road that lead to Manziel’s current net worth.

The legend of Johnny Football began with his illustrious career at Tivy High School. He started at quarterback for roughly two and a half seasons and put up monster numbers for the Antlers, throwing for 7,500 yards and 75 TDs and running for 4,038 yards and 78 TDs. His senior year in 2010 was especially dominant, as he threw for 3,609 yards, 45 TDs, and only 5 INTs while contributing 1,674 yards and 30 TDs on the ground. Manziel was named a Parade All-American and decided to play his college ball at Texas A&M.

Manziel was redshirted in 2011, but he more than made up for lost time during his historic 2012 campaign. He took the nation by storm with his video game numbers and electric style of play, and he became the first freshman to ever win the Heisman Trophy. Manziel threw for 3,706 yards, 26 TDs, and 9 INTs while adding 1,410 yards and 21 TDs on the ground. After a big sophomore season that saw Manziel rack up 4,873 yards and 46 TDs, he decided to enter the 2014 NFL Draft.

Manziel was drafted by the Cleveland Browns with the 22nd pick after concerns about his size and character caused him to slip to the late first round. He signed a 4-year contract worth $8.25 million that included a $4.3 million signing bonus and $6.7 million guaranteed. He also signed endorsement deals with several big name brands. After two seasons of disappointing play on the field and a laundry list of off-the-field incidents, the Browns cut Manziel on March 11, 2016.

As of this writing and probably for the foreseeable future, very few people want anything to do with Manziel when it comes to football or business. It’s extremely doubtful that he will be on an NFL roster for the 2016 season, and he’s been let go by the marketing agency LRMR, agents Erik Burkhardt and Drew Rosenhaus, and virtually all of his sponsorships.

If there’s one silver lining for Manziel pissing away an NFL career and millions of dollars, it’s that his family is absurdly wealthy. Johnny’s grandfather, Bobby Joe Manziel, made a fortune after hitting oil in Texas in the 1930s, and his parents have done very well in their respective business ventures. Michelle Manziel found success in real estate and Paul Manziel thrived building homes and selling cars. It’s estimated that Johnny’s parents’ net worth is a whopping $50 million, which makes Johnny’s net worth of $4 million look like child’s play. Maybe they’re the ones who should be doing that famous money celebration?
