Flyers Fans Threw A Few Bracelets Last Night…At Least They Didn’t Kill Anybody

Flyers Fans throw bracelets hot dogs

Here’s the short version of what happened last night in Philly during the Caps-Flyers for those of you who don’t give a shit to dig too deep into the proceedings. The Flyers gave fans bracelets for a light show before the game to honor longtime team owner Ed Snider who recently passed. The light show happened, the fans got jacked up and the Flyers got off to a hot start, taking an early 1-0 lead.

Then Washington scored six straight, there was a boarding incident and all hell broke loose with the bracelets. Bracelets everywhere. Thousands of bracelets thrown on the ice.

The Bracelet Game. 3-0 Caps. Series over. Season over. Philly being Philly.

Here’s the boarding:

And then someone throwing a bracelet at the guy who got boarded:

And then the PA announcer trying to calm the crowd by saying this is something that happens at other NHL rinks, trying to invoke Sam Wyche from his famous “You don’t live in Cleveland” speech.

And you hear a Philly fan dropping a “fuck you.”

Look, this is Philly being Philly. I don’t care how hard the hipsters on Twitter will try to spin it as “this happens everywhere, but lazy sports writers and bloggers always want to take shots at Philly fans.” They’ve already started. I’m still not sure what they’re trying to protect. This is the tough guy image Philly harvested, maintains and lives. I’ve said it over and over and over again, this is who Philly is deep down. Go to Philly. Drive the streets. Go to the Wing Bowl wearing a Redskins jersey and see what happens. Go order a cheesesteak the wrong way. Drive slow on Philly streets. Order lunch too slow. See what happens.

It’s just the way Philly is and I don’t have a problem with it. I love this about Philly. It still has character. The people have an edge. The ‘Leave Phillly Alone’ crowd can fight it all they want, but the ‘Philly Being Philly’ crowd is too deep rooted.

Just go with it…like Ryan White.
