Charles Barkley Net Worth as of 2016: $30 Million

Let’s take a look at how Charles made his fortune.

Charles Barkley was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers with the 5th overall pick in the 1984 draft. Barkley had a very modest salary the first two years in his rookie contract making $437,500 and $822,500 respectively. By the fifth and his eventual last year with the 76ers, Barkley cashed in $3,000,000. Barkley ended up getting traded in 1992 to the Phoenix Suns.

Barkley made it to Phoenix due to some issues that the 76ers wanted to get rid of. It turned out to be one of the best trades the Suns have ever made.  In his first season as a Sun, Barkley won the MVP and took the team to the NBA finals. Barkley made roughly $14,460,00 in his time with the Suns but never coveted what every pro basketball player wants, and that is an NBA championship.

Barkley was traded to the Houston Rockets before the 1996 season. Barkley was threatening the Suns that he would retire if not traded and his wishes were granted.  Houston had beaten his Suns team twice in the NBA finals in years past and he was destined to win an NBA title before he retire. Barkley never won that title but ended up making over $12,000,000 in four years with the Rockets.

Barkley lost nearly $10 Million dollars due to gambling in his post playing days.  Barkley had even admitted to numerous people that he had a problem. The only difference with other people was that he could afford to have this problem.  This caused Barkley to lose a decent amount of his money that he earned from the NBA.

Since his retirement, Barkley has been inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame and has also had his jersey number retired by Auburn University, The Philadelphia 76ers and the Phoenix Suns. Barkley was also inducted into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame in 2008. He is most known now for being an analyst for TNT on the Inside the NBA show where he has been an analyst for the network since 2000.  Now that Barkley does the Inside the NBA show and helps with the NCAA basketball tournament, his salary to date is roughly $1,500,000 per year.
