Despite pitching his home games in Petco Park in 2015, Ian Kennedy had a bit of a down year with a 4.28 ERA and 9-15 record. Not exactly the type of numbers you want to post on a walk year, but that didn’t stop Ian from getting paid this offseason.
Surprisingly, the World Series champion Kansas City Royals signed him to a five-year, $70 million deal (and surrendered a draft pick) to shore up their rotation. It’s a bit of a head-scratching move, but hey, it’s just another reminder to the parents out there that baseball is the way to go. By the time that deal is up, Ian will be over $90 million in career earnings.
And he’s going to earn some more once he sells his home in Scottsdale. According to public records, it was purchased back in 2011 for $1.675 million, and now Ian’s looking to land $2.29 million for it.
