Cris Collinsworth's Brain Might Not Be OK…Just Listen

Something might be wrong with Cris Collinsworth’s brain. He told a little tale tonight during Sunday Night Football about the time the Bengals got beat 61-7 in Houston and the players couldn’t get the Oilers fight song out of their heads on the flight home. The problem: Collinsworth was never on a Bengals team that lost 61-7 to the Oilers.
Maybe Collinsworth misremembered.
There was a 61-7 game between the Bengals and Oilers, but that happened in 1989 and Collinsworth had retired after the 1988 season. And the Bengals won the 61-7 game.
The likely truth here is that Collinsworth is talking about the 1988 Bengals-Oilers game that was a 41-6 blowout win for Houston. That loss burned in Sam Wyche’s belly and led to the 1989 payback game. ”I just don’t like Jerry Glanville,” Wyche was quoted as saying after the game by the New York Times.
Hate to ruin Collinsworth’s story with research.
