Cory Mathias of Tiffin, Ohio has had himself a rough couple of years. The Buckeyes and Browns fan has had his issues with drugs and alcohol that have resulted in at least one other run-in with the law in small northern Ohio towns. According to cops, Cory hit rock-bottom Saturday night when he had a 9-year-old drive him to a carryout to get BBQ sauce because he was too drunk to drive.
From the Tiffin (OH) Advertiser-Tribune:
Cory D. Mathias, 27, of Tiffin, was drunk Saturday evening when he had the youth drive him to a gas station to buy barbecue sauce, said a Tiffin Police Department spokesman.
The spokesman said Mathias was having the child over for a chicken dinner. He said Mathias realized he didn’t have barbecue sauce and asked the child to drive to the gas station. The spokesman said the child’s parents were neighbors of Mathias.
“His parents didn’t know (Mathias) was drunk,” the spokesman said.
He said clerks at Pit Stop, 321 E. Perry St., would not allow the child to drive home, so Mathias tried to drive. He said officers pulled Mathias over after receiving a report from Pit Stop employees.
Cory registered a .300, which is four times the legal limit in Ohio. He was charged with OVI, driving under suspension and a bunch of other stuff. Why was his license suspended? Because, in 2014, Cory was found drunk and possessing coke while laying in a yard.
Add it all up and it’s very possible that Cory won’t be catching the Buckeyes run to the Final Four or that huge Michigan game coming up.
