This is the price you pay when you’re stuck being the ref who patrols the middle of the field. Sometimes you get trucked by a running back, sometimes a linebacker accidentally tackles you instead of the ball carrier, and sometimes you get a football thrown at your face.

I think Christian Hackenberg was trying to send a little message to the refs here and maybe get himself a couple of calls later in the game. If you throw a 100 mph bullet right at a referee’s forehead early in the game, you’re going to get that pass interference call in the 4th quarter every time.
