Listen, I don’t do many sports radio shows for a couple reasons (1.) I’m not asked very often to do sports radio (2.) I’ve never had a publicist, which means I’ve never had someone out hunting for shows that would put me on the air (3.) I’m not much of an expert and can’t provide a show host with insider tidbits like Brian Windhorst or Schefty (4.) Believe it or not, I’m actually busy working my ass off on BC. My day usually starts at 6:30 a.m., goes until around 5:30 and then starts again around 9 each night until 11 or so.
And it’s been that way for nearly eight years.
But I have these guys — Anthony Bellino (@BellinoNBC) and Chris Burns (@chris_burns65) — who do a morning radio show in Toledo, Ohio, one of the most depressing local sports talk markets in the United States. Seriously, I’ve spent about 15 years in this area and the Morning Blitz is the first sports show of substance this city has produced. These guys are young, hungry to grow a radio show they’ve built from the ground up and they’re hustling. It reminds me of how things took off on BC. You work your ass off and good things will happen. Bellino works like 10 jobs. Burns has a couple. They get up every day and bust ass at something they love doing and it shows.

So I threw them a bone because I’m a nice guy… and I kept hearing about this Cody Lampl (@CodyLampl32) dude who would be guest hosting. Lampl just completed his second stint as a member of the ECHL’s Toledo Walleye so he’s a legend in this town. The puck bunnies go nuts over the guy. I’ve heard straight grown men lusting after this guy. Seriously.
Of course I had to meet him. The guy is a tatted up, bearded, American flag shirt wearing maniac who stopped this morning on his drive from Colorado to New York just to do the show.
Lampl:
Many of you have been asking about a BC podcast. This is it. Eat it up. There’s a good chance you’ll be getting more. I might even hire Lampl to be our new international correspondent. He’s leaving in late July to play a season in Germany.
