After tossing eight shutout innings against the Brewers in his last outing, Mets righty Jacob deGrom was pulled from his Thursday start against the Cubs after just five-plus innings.
DeGrom wasn’t exactly terrible, giving up three earned runs and seven hits, but with the way the Mets offense has been sputtering, the damage was done. His reaction upon returning to the dugout after getting yanked:
Don’t freak out Mets fans! Yes, deGrom punched the cooler with his pitching hand, but he was smart enough to use his glove as a buffer to prevent injury.
