Baylor’s LaQuan McGowan caught a touchdown pass in the Cotton Bowl against Michigan State and it set the wheels in motion for what Art Briles is cooking up down in Waco. The Baylor head coach has been experimenting during spring practices with McGowan at the tight end position.
The Waco Tribune reports this week that Art has his eyes on actually giving McGowan more playing time at the position.
“We’re looking at him as kind of a slot and tight end type of guy,” Baylor coach Art Briles said. “He can certainly help us in the run game in those situations. The way we’re looking at it is we’ve got three games in nonconference to kind of feel it out and see what he can do and teach him what to do in live action.”
LaQuan, who was listed at 390 pounds for the bowl game, has now climbed over the four bills mark, according to his official school bio. By comparison, Rob Gronkowski is in the 6-6, 265-pound ballpark.

How is a non-conference team going to shut this down? Good luck to SMU, Lamar and Rice.
