You didn’t think #Deflategate would just go away on the Monday before the Super Bowl, did you? Of course not, especially when media day is Tuesday. Things are about to heat up again.
Jay Glazer reports:
Breaking news: sources tell @FOXSports the NFL has zeroed in on a locker room attendant w Patriots who allegedly took balls from officials locker room to another area on way to field. Sources say they have interviewed him and additionally have video. Still gauging if any wrong doing occurred with him but he is strong person of interest
The good news for everyone is that the Patriots ball boys won’t be working the Super Bowl. The NFL hired a Bears equipment manager to coordinate the footballs. There won’t be deflated balls, over-inflated balls, big balls, little balls. The balls should be perfect for the game.
According to Newsday:
“At this Super Bowl, the equipment manager of a team not competing in the game is in charge of the game balls and arranging for the ball attendant crews, which are hired before the Super Bowl teams are determined, a longstanding practice,” NFL spokesman Michael Signora said. “The balls go through the standard testing and verification process with the game officials during the pregame time period, as happens for every game.”
If there’s a guy you wanting guarding the balls at the Super Bowl, it’s equipment manager Tony Medlin. This guy has served asĀ game-day football coordinator for every Super Bowl since 1999. The guy will guarantee the legitimacy of the balls.
