Back in October, then-Yankees closer David Robertson told ESPN that Nick Saban is a “better leader” than Joe Girardi. The former Alabama pitcher was dead serious about it, playing the championships card:
That’s a tough question, you’re putting me on the spot with that one. This is nothing against Joe Girardi, but I’m going to have to give it to Nick Saban because he’s got three national championships with Alabama.
(Girardi has won four titles—three as a player and one as a manager—but okay, David.)
Perhaps that sentiment stayed with Girardi, who went over to Tuscaloosa to take in the annual Iron Bowl between Auburn and Alabama.
Sorry Joe, your baseball aura is useless in the south—but some people were pumped to meet you at least!
