Giancarlo Stanton, who will make $68,493 per day for 13 years, celebrated his new $325,000,000 contract last night with a big bottle of champagne at a Miami club. That’s the look of a guy who just turned 25 and knows exactly how much guaranteed money will be flowing to his bank account until he’s 38 and ready to leave the game behind.
Chew on this: Stanton made $537,000 in 2013; $6,500,000 in 2014.
And…chew on this: Stanton has never batted over .300, has only driven in 100+RBI once (2014), and struck out 170 times in 2014. Yes, I understand he’s a helluva power hitter. I understand it’s impossible to find young talented power hitters. I understand you have to pay young power hitters a ton of money because steroids aren’t coming back. Don’t complain when your cable bill goes up to pay for that contract.
Back to Giancarlo’s night.
Of course the guy is going to hit a Miami club where the thumping doesn’t stop until the sun comes up and some chick yells into a mic while dropping a “Do it,” on cue.
