BC’s relationship with Melanie Collins goes back to the beginning of the site. I used to work closely with David Freedman, who ran a company called Tempe12. He would put out calendars with college girls in bikinis and had a Big Ten issue featuring Melanie. She was a Penn State broadcasting student who did bikini work on the side. Those of you who’ve been around from the beginning know that she went on to work for NBA TV and a couple web operations before landing at Yahoo, which led to work on the Golf Channel, sideline reporting for CBS and now a fill-in slot for Michelle Beadle on SportsNation.
That’s right, @Melanie_Collins has finally reached the summit after all these years. She’ll be co-hosting SportsNation Wednesday and Thursday.
I have no idea what took so long for Collins to get a shot at ESPN. She speaks well on camera. Obviously she’s hot. And she has Beadle’s blessing. We should all assume that a two-day fill-in slot means that this is Collins’ shot at a bigger role. You don’t just give Melanie Collins a slot on SportsNation unless you’re looking to have her do bigger things at the network than just two days of co-hosting.
