After finishing a three-game sweep of the Red Sox with a 6-2 win at Fenway Park on Sunday night, the Detroit Tigers have the best record in baseball (27-12) and a seven-game lead over Kansas City in the American League Central. Now that the team has Zubaz on its side, Motown may want to start planning the World Series victory parade.
Late Sunday night, Tigers players wore tiger-striped Zubaz pants and matching hoodies (above and below) for the plane ride*** from Boston to Cleveland, where they’ll face the Indians for three games starting Monday night.
BC’s Joe Kinsey has chronicled Zubaz for you plenty of times in the past on this site, but the Tigers’ takeover is a bold strategy by the apparel manufacturer. We’re talking outfitting Cy Young winners Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer, former Triple Crown champ Miguel Cabrera, Ian Kinsler, Torii Hunter, Joba Chamberlain and more.
You know Rays’ manager Joe Maddon, who practically invented the themed-road trip, is all butthurt somewhere.
Did this all get rolling from an Instagram pic that Verlander posted a few weeks ago? Who knows, but we’re probably one step closer to Kate Upton in a Zubaz bikini.
With the kind of success the Tigers are having, is a future Zubaz-Out at Comerica Park a possibility? One can dream.
*** UPDATE: The team plane had mechanical issues, so the Tigers were grounded in Boston in Zubaz for the night.
