While the NFL is in the middle of its two-week Super Bowl build up, the NHL is seizing the moment with a Stadium Series featuring three games in two marquee baseball parks.
Dodger Stadium will host the L.A. Kings vs. Anaheim Ducks (9:30 p.m. EST on NBC Sports Network) on Saturday, while Yankee Stadium will host the N.Y. Rangers vs. the N.J. Devils on Sunday (12:30 p.m. EST on NBC) and the Rangers vs. the Islanders on Wednesday (7:30 p.m. EST on NBCSN).
The league hasn’t had a difficult time getting ice ready in the frigid Bronx, but L.A. has been a different story (above; video below), with warm temperatures creating a challenge to construct an NHL-level surface.
The forecast for L.A. on Saturday: Partly cloudy with a high of 78 and a low of 53. Not perfect hockey weather.
There are still face-value tickets available for Kings-Ducks, but the best available was a $288 seat and the game may sell out.
The ice was good enough on Wednesday night for a celebrity and media hockey games featuring Cuba Gooding Jr., David Boreanaz and Fox Sports 1’s fabulous hockey lady Julie Stewart-Binks. Kings and Ducks alumni also skated. We rounded up the best pics in the gallery below:
