Colorado Rockies prospect Tyler Massey is not lollygagging while playing for the Melbourne Aces in the Australian Baseball League this winter (summer down under).
During last Friday’s game between Melbourne and the Adelaide Bite, Massey darted back to snare a drive off Houston Astros prospect Joe Sclafani in the bottom of the 7th inning, and he went ass-first through the fence at Norwood Oval to make the grab – as you can see in the video above.
Not quite Rodney McCray, but a great effort. Love the ump running his fat ass out there to make the call. Good thing he didn’t hit that fence.
Massey wasn’t done. He jacked a three-run homer in the top of the eighth to give his team a commanding 4-0 lead on the way to a 7-3 win.
Massey, a 24-year-old Tennessee native, had career highs in hits, home runs and triples last season while with the Class-A Modesto Nuts of the California League in 2013. He’s living with fellow Rockies’ prospect Ryan Casteel and his wife this winter in Australia.
With a sports broadcast calendar currently dominated by mediocre college basketball games and bland regular season NHL and NBA contests, it has been nice to occasionally get a baseball highlight from the ABL.
