Cheerleader Sues Raiders For Withholding Pay & Not Paying Minimum Wage
A lawsuit was filed today in a California court on behalf of an Oakland Raiders cheerleader, Lacy T., who claims the team held pay until the end of the 2013-14 season and didn’t pay cheerleaders minimum wage.
The cheerleader’s law team argues in the lawsuit that “cheerleaders are to be paid only $1250 for working an entire season, which amounts to less than $5.00 per hour for the time that they spend rehearsing, performing and appearing at events where they are not paid.”
California’s current minimum wage is $8/hr.
The Raiders are also accused of fining cheerleaders for “forgetting to bring the correct pom-poms to practice, wearing the wrong workout clothing to rehearsals, failing to bring a yoga mat to practice, or not turning in written biographies on time.”
According to Lacy’s biography still available on Raiders.com, her occupation is listed as stay-at-home mom.
