UFC legend Cain Velasquez is behind bars.
According to TMZ Sports, the former UFC heavyweight champion was arrested and booked on an attempted murder charge in San Jose, California.
The 39-year-old was reportedly involved in a shooting near a local high school.
While few details have been released on the incident, Velasquez remained behind bars on Tuesday morning and is set for a Wednesday court appearance.
Velasquez’s exact involvement in the shooting is unclear at this time.
The two-time heavyweight champion is widely regarded as one of the best heavyweights in UFC history. Velasquez first won the title in 2010 with a first-round TKO over Brock Lesnar. He would go on to lose the belt to Junior dos Santos on the UFC’s first-ever show on FOX, before reclaiming the belt with a five-round drubbing of dos Santos in 2012.
In his final UFC appearance, Velasquez suffered a 26-second knockout loss to Francis Ngannou before leaving the UFC for WWE. Velasquez finished his professional mixed martial arts career with a record of 14-3.
