Bellator MMA wrapped up its 2021 season with a spectacular event at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. Bellator 272 had it all, including an incredible comeback victory and Knockout of the Year candidate in the main event.

With the bantamweight title on the line, Kyoji Horiguchi was imposing his will until a special moment in the fourth round.

Sergio Pettis was able to shake off a takedown attempt, just missed on a hail mary headkick attempt, and then connected with a perfectly placed spinning backfist that immediately knocked Horiguchi out cold to retain his belt.

“I came out here and got beaten up for four rounds. When it happened, I was just like, β€˜Man I am losing this fight. I’ve got to do something spectacular.’ It (the decisive punch that ended the fight) came at the right time,” Pettis said after the highlight reel finish.

β€œI needed to face some adversity, and tonight Horiguchi gave me all of that. It was hard trying to time his rhythm, trying to get his movement down. My coaches always tell me, β€˜If you open up, you could be one of the best in the world.’ That what I’m pushing for.”
