A scary scene unfolded when Julija Stoliaren stepped to the scale for the UFC Vegas 22 weigh-ins.
The women’s bantamweight successfully made weight for her preliminary card bout with Julia Avila at 135-pounds before medical attention was needed.
Stoliaren stepped back from the scale before falling through the backdrop and collapsing on the stage multiple times.
After the medical staff evaluated Stoliaren, who could not stay on her feet, a stretcher was brought out and she was taken for further medical evaluation. Her bout with Avila for Saturday’s event at the UFC Apex has been canceled.
Avila released a statement about the fight cancellation on social media shortly after the news.
“Unfortunately, my fight has been canceled. My opponent fainted twice on the scales,” she wrote on Instagram. “I hope nothing but a speedy recovery for @julija.stoliarenko and prayers for her. Maybe we can meet up at a future date. But I will not be performing tomorrow night. As always, thank you to #pandaNation for the support. I love you all. May all the Julia’s in the world be unified and be healthy.”
UFC Vegas 22 is st to take place at the UFC Apex and is headlined by a middleweight bout between Derek Brunson and Kevin Holland. In the co-main event of the night, lightweights Gregor Gillespie and Brad Riddell will battle it out.
