There goes Austin Rivers.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Clippers finally pulled the plug on the father-son bond of Doc and Austin by trading the guard to the Wizards for Marcin Gortat. Both players made roughly the same amount of money (Austin: $11.8 million; Marcin: $12.7 million) to make it a clean one-for-one swap.

Why did the Clippers do this? Well, they have a million guards on the team — Patrick Beverley, Milos Teodosic, Jawun Evans, Sindarius Thornwell, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jerome Robinson, Lou Williams — and there’s a possibility DeAndre Jordan doesn’t opt in to the final year of his contract. And even if he does there are talks of a potential sign and trade, so they are in need of a replacement big.
As for the Wizards, what else is there to say than John Wall should be thrilled?
Reaction to the trade on social media is about what you’d expect when it comes to anything related to Doc and Austin Rivers:

No need to cry for Doc, he has new kids from last week’s draft:
