You want to know what a real hero looks like? Look at that sweet 9-year-old English bulldog named Hobie, a Mississippi State fan BTW. He gave his life over the weekend to his family by protecting a 3-year-old boy from a six-foot timber rattlesnake that was perpatrating on property where the young boy was retrieving a volleyball in tall grass for his parents, Lance Dodd and Jami Harvey.
One volleyball in the vicinity of the rattler turned into a violent war between the animals.
From The Commercial Dispatch:

When Dodd turned after a missed shot, he noticed Hobie standing rigid. Then he heard the snake. Three-year-old Jackson was five feet away from the dog. Hobie lunged forward. The snake, a six-foot timber rattler, hit Hobie in the face. The snake and dog traded licks. Dodd saw the snake strike the bulldog twice more, both times in the face.

Hobie began to wobble. The rattler retreated to a lean-to next to a well house.

Hobie died Saturday at the Mississippi State University vet hospital. The snake was shot.

“People think it’s crazy to call a dog a hero,” said Dodd. “To me, he’s a hero. I believe Hobie saved Jackson’s life.

Just another example of why dogs are better than cats. They will give their lives for you. This is just the latest example. Hobie wasn’t exactly young, but there he was right in the middle of the action protecting his family. The Rock. You and I both know what would’ve happened if that rattler went after the kid. It would’ve been bad.
Hobie’s like fucc it, it’s go time. No fear. Right into battle like the badass he clearly was.
RIP Hobie.
