In less than a year, Jacob DeGrom has gone from winning Rookie of the Year, to getting marrying Stacey DeGrom, to a honeymoon in Maui, back home for the 2015 season and now the Mets Game 1 starter in the NLDS. Less than a year. All of it. “Everybody plays to go to the World Series. Hopefully it all comes together this year,” DeGrom said in January. Jacob and Stacey first met at a bull-riding event and eventually got engaged over Christmas in 2013.

Q: What would get you nervous, or make you a little rattled off the field?
A: (Chuckle) I was really nervous for my wedding, and I didn’t think I would be.
Q: Tell me about your wedding.
A: That was obviously an unforgettable day. I wasn’t nervous till I was standing up at the altar waiting on her to walk down — oh man, was I nervous! When she got down there, I wasn’t as bad.
