RIP: Golfer Troy Merritt's 2-Iron

Golfer Troy Merritt had some issues in Round 1 of the Valero Texas Open, shooting a 74 (+2). But on an super interesting note, he shattered his 2-iron on hole 11:

It shouldn’t be shocking to learn that Merritt ended up bogeying this hole. I’m guessing his club shattering like a baseball bat probably didn’t help his cause.
However, Troy ended up making the smart play and gave love to his sponsor so he can get a bunch of free crap:

It could have been worse for Troy, he could have just lost his club head like Phil Mickelson:

Has the broken bat effect in baseball carried over to golf?!?! I personally hope so, I’m all for destroyed equipment.
