Falcons Acquire OT Wanya Morris from Chiefs for 2027 Sixth-Round Pick

The Atlanta Falcons are trading for offensive tackle Wanya Morris from the Kansas City Chiefs, multiple reports confirm. Along with Morris, Atlanta will receive a 2027 seventh-round pick – while Kansas City gets a 2027 sixth-rounder in return, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

Morris, 25, played in 12 games for the Chiefs last season with one start before a knee injury cut his year short on the first snap of their Week 14 matchup with the Houston Texans.

He’s spent three seasons in Kansas City, appearing in 43 games total and making 11 starts during the 2024-25 campaign. The former Oklahoma standout was even on the receiving end of a touchdown pass in a Week 2 win over the Cincinnati Bengals that year. Kansas City drafted him in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft (93rd overall).

His path to more playing time in Kansas City, though, had become increasingly blocked.

Several players had moved ahead of him on the depth chart – six-year veteran Jaylon Moore, second-year players Esa Pole and Chukwuebuka Godrick, and undrafted rookie Kahlil Benson from national champion Indiana all factored into the logjam at tackle.

What Morris Brings to Atlanta

The Falcons are bringing him in to fill a swing tackle role, just as he did with the Chiefs. Jake Matthews is locked in at left tackle, and Atlanta recently signed Morris’ former Kansas City teammate Jawaan Taylor as the starting right tackle. Michael Jerrell, acquired from the Seattle Seahawks last season, also sits on the depth chart at right tackle.

The move makes even more sense given that tackle Storm Norton landed on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list Thursday, leaving Atlanta short on reliable depth up front.

Protecting that right side is going to matter – a lot. With Tua Tagovailoa and Michael Penix Jr. both in the picture at quarterback, keeping the pocket clean is a priority. Morris is also well regarded as a run blocker, which fits nicely in an Atlanta offense built around running backs Bijan Robinson and Brian Robinson Jr.
