George Pickens will now be catching passes alongside CeeDee Lamb in Dallas, forming what could be one of the NFL’s most electric receiving duos. The Cowboys paid a hefty price to make it happen, though.
The Steelers landing a third and fifth-round pick for Pickens should set off alarm bells around the league. If Pittsburgh can secure that kind of return, just imagine what teams with established star receivers could command on the trade market. The Miami Dolphins, in particular, should be taking notes about Tyreek Hill’s potential value.
Chris Grier’s reportedly sky-high asking price for even considering a Hill trade suddenly doesn’t seem so unreasonable. The Pickens deal validates it. But here’s the thing – Miami should seriously consider fielding offers for the Cheetah, knowing they could land a massive haul in return.
Why the Dolphins Should Consider Trading Tyreek Hill After Seeing the Pickens Deal
Let’s be clear – Pickens is talented with untapped potential that Dallas might finally unlock. But there are levels to this receiver game, and Hill sits near the very top. He’s one of the most dominant pass-catchers of his generation. If Miami actually made him available? Teams would be falling over themselves offering premium draft picks.
Yes, there are some factors that might impact Hill’s trade value. He’s 31 and recovering from wrist surgery that reportedly bothered him since before Week 1 last season. That injury clearly affected his play – there were stretches where his game-breaking ability seemed noticeably absent. The question is whether other teams see this as a chance to buy low or the beginning of the end for an otherwise Hall of Fame career.
Hill’s decline is relative, though.
Even in what many considered a “down year,” Hill recorded 959 receiving yards in 2024 – his first time under 1,000 yards since 2019. For perspective, that would still rank as Pickens’ second-best season in his three-year career. Even a compromised Hill outproduces what Dallas just paid premium picks to acquire.
The offseason has already featured some eyebrow-raising social media activity from Hill, along with his well-documented quick exit following Miami’s disappointing season finale. While the Dolphins have emphatically shut down trade rumors, the Pickens-to-Dallas deal might make them reconsider their stance.
