Eagles Connected to Major Trade: Potential Bad News for Jalen Hurts

The Philadelphia Eagles are still riding high after their Super Bowl 59 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. While they’ve managed to keep linebacker Zack Baun in the fold, they’ve watched several key contributors walk out the door this offseason. That’s the price of success in the NFL — championship teams often get picked apart in free agency as other teams try to acquire their talent.

Despite these losses, the Birds aren’t exactly in dire straits. They’ve locked down their core offensive weapons long-term — Saquon Barkley, A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, and franchise quarterback Jalen Hurts are all secured for the foreseeable future. But the roster reshuffling might not be over just yet.

Eagles fans have been waiting for another splash move this offseason. Interestingly, one potential transaction that’s emerged involves sending a player away rather than bringing one in.

ESPN’s Giants reporter Jordan Raanan dropped a bombshell during a recent Instagram Live session. According to Raanan, the New York Giants reached out to the Eagles earlier this offseason about tight end Dallas Goedert. While nothing materialized from those discussions, Raanan indicated it’s a situation the Giants continue to monitor.

“I heard at one point they looked into Dallas Goedert,” Raanan revealed, according to GiantsWire“He sounds like a guy who is going to get traded at some point in this draft.

“Now, I am not expecting Dallas Goedert to get traded to the Giants, but the fact that they checked in on it definitely made me scratch my head a little bit… It’s something they are at least monitoring.”

Giants checking in with Eagles about Dallas Goedert is bad news for Jalen Hurts

Raanan’s comments suggest there’s a real possibility Goedert could be traded before the 2025 season kicks off. The timing makes sense — Goedert is entering the final year of his contract, making this the classic “extend him or move him” scenario that NFL teams frequently face.

For Hurts, losing Goedert would be a significant blow.

The Eagles’ tight end depth behind Goedert is concerning at best. If a trade happens, Hurts would be left with Grant Calcaterra (a 2022 sixth-round selection) and Harrison Bryant as his primary tight end options. Neither player offers anywhere near the security blanket that Goedert has provided for Hurts throughout their time together in Philly.

Yes, Goedert has battled injuries — last season he was limited to just 10 regular-season games due to hamstring and knee issues. But when healthy, he’s been one of Hurts’ most reliable targets, especially in crucial situations. That established chemistry isn’t easily replaced.

Philadelphia’s current roster isn’t finalized by any means. With the draft just days away, it’s likely that GM Howie Roseman (who’s never shy about making moves) will target a tight end prospect if he’s seriously considering moving on from Goedert.

What’s particularly intriguing about this situation is that it involves two NFC East rivals. The Giants reaching out about one of the Eagles’ key offensive weapons raises eyebrows across the league. Would Philadelphia really consider strengthening a division opponent they face twice every season? That seems unlikely, but stranger things have happened in the NFL.

If Goedert does end up elsewhere, Hurts will need to quickly develop rapport with new targets at the tight end position — something that could impact the Eagles’ offensive efficiency as they look to defend their title in 2025.
