The Saddest QB Battle Continues for NY Giants Despite Jameis Winston Addition

The New York Football Giants just doubled their quarterback room by bringing in Jameis Winston on a two-year, $8 million deal Friday. But don’t get it twisted — this doesn’t mean Winston’s taking over the starting job at MetLife next season.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports that New York is still hunting for their QB1, contrary to what many analysts have suggested about the team focusing solely on April’s draft.

“They are as much/more looking for a veteran starter than the Browns, definitely more than Vikings,” a source told Florio.

Giants still eyeing Russell Wilson

What’s this really mean for Big Blue? According to the same source, GM Joe Schoen hasn’t completely abandoned hope of landing four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers — though they admit that scenario “seems unlikely” at this stage of free agency.

Russell Wilson remains unsigned and reportedly has his sights set on New York. A return to Pittsburgh looks increasingly doubtful (and honestly, the Steelers don’t seem interested in bringing him back either).

The interest appears mutual.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler mentioned Wednesday on SportsCenter (h/t Bleacher Report) that Wilson sees New York as “more of a viable option” — especially since Rodgers is likely chasing situations that give him the best chance to win now.

While Wilson doesn’t have Rodgers’ trophy case, he’s still a capable veteran who could help turn around the Giants’ recent struggles. He’d provide leadership for young weapons like rookie sensation Malik Nabers. If Schoen isn’t planning to use that No. 3 overall pick on a quarterback next month — which this Winston signing might suggest — Wilson could be the perfect bridge to get them to the 2026 or 2027 draft class when they might find their true franchise guy.
