The Atlanta Falcons face steep odds for Super Bowl 60 success, despite the excitement surrounding Michael Penix Jr. Sports Illustrated’s Iain MacMillan reports the team sits at +6000 odds — ranking 18th among NFL teams for the 2025 season.
Atlanta’s path to championship glory has historically been unconventional. Rather than steady improvement, the franchise tends to make dramatic leaps when success comes. Their previous Super Bowl appearances caught the league off guard, and any future run would likely follow that pattern.
The team’s offensive arsenal looks promising. General manager Terry Fontenot has assembled an impressive collection of young talent through the draft — Penix, Bijan Robinson, Drake London, Tyler Allgeier, and Kyle Pitts form an enviable core of playmakers.
Defense remains the biggest question mark.
Fontenot’s track record with defensive draft picks, particularly in the second round, has been problematic. The unit’s struggles to pressure quarterbacks and get crucial stops have held the team back. The new coaching staff — Raheem Morris, Zac Robinson, and Jeff Ulbrich — will need to address these defensive shortcomings in their second season.
While Super Bowl aspirations might be premature, the Falcons have realistic goals within reach. Winning the NFC South and securing the franchise’s first playoff victory at Mercedes-Benz Stadium would mark significant progress. Penix’s development in year two, along with improved coaching execution, will be crucial factors.
Despite defensive uncertainties, the overall roster foundation appears stronger than many expect. The Falcons may not be favorites for a championship run, but they shouldn’t be dismissed as playoff contenders.
