The Green Bay Packers made it to the playoffs this year, but they didn’t do so well. They got in as the No. 7 seed and lost to the Philadelphia Eagles right away. In Green Bay, just making the playoffs isn’t enough because they’re used to winning a lot.
But there’s a silver lining. The Packers are in a good spot for the future. Jordan Love is still with the team, and they’ve got one of the youngest squads in the league. Fans hope the team’s general manager, Brian Gutekunst, will make smart moves to build on their young talent and affordable contracts.
Gutekunst seems to agree with this idea. Speaking to reporters, he shared his thoughts on where the team stands and what needs to be done next. His words suggested he’s ready to push forward and capitalize on Green Bay’s current situation.
“We need to continue to ramp up our sense of urgency,” Gutekunst stated. “These opportunities — the life of a player in the NFL is not very long. We’ve got a bunch of good, talented guys in that locker room. I think it’s time we start competing for championships, right?”
It’s time for Green Bay to aim high again, Gutey! This offseason could be a big chance for them.
Brian Gutekunst sounds like a man gearing up for an aggressive Packers offseason.
Looking ahead to 2025, the Packers have some financial flexibility. They have the 10th-most effective cap space in the NFL, which could increase significantly if they decide to part ways with cornerback Jaire Alexander after June 1. This move could free up about $55 million for them to use.
The roster is in a strong position as they approach the new season. With no major free agents expected to leave, apart from perhaps Josh Myers, Emanuel Wilson, and Eric Stokes, the Packers can afford to be more assertive in free agency or trades than they have been in recent years.
A familiar name that might return is Davante Adams, especially since the team needs a top-tier wide receiver. Adams hinted at this possibility recently, raising eyebrows. If they can strike a good deal, bringing him back would greatly benefit Jordan Love.
Even if Adams rejoins, the Packers could still look to strengthen other areas. They might consider a new center to replace Myers or find someone like Asante Samuel Jr. to fill Alexander’s shoes. Improving their pass rush with players like Khalil Mack or Baron Browning is also on the table.
However, talk is cheap without action. Historically, Green Bay hasn’t been known for big offseason spending. But with Gutekunst’s current mindset, fans should watch closely for significant changes this spring.
