The Pittsburgh Steelers are getting ready to play against the Baltimore Ravens in the NFL Playoffs. This is a big deal because the Steelers have lost their last four games. Coach Mike Tomlin usually gets his team to the playoffs, but winning there is tough.
This game will test them.
Some people might say the Steelers had bad luck with injuries and a tough schedule, but that doesn’t change the fact they’re struggling. Now, they have to face the Ravens, a really strong team, in a do-or-die match.
Playing against Baltimore feels like facing an old friend — or maybe a rival. Both teams know each other well since they played twice this season, splitting wins. But last time, just before Christmas, Baltimore crushed Pittsburgh 34-17. It seems like the Ravens might have an edge.
If the Steelers lose badly, it could shake things up for them. Losing close is one thing, but if Baltimore wins big, Pittsburgh might rethink everything. This includes possibly changing their quarterback lineup, according to Ian Rapoport from NFL Network.
Rapoport once believed Russell Wilson was Pittsburgh’s future QB. But after recent losses, doubts have crept in. Wilson’s performance dipped, completing only 61.8% of his passes and matching touchdowns with turnovers.
Pittsburgh ended 6-5 in games started by Wilson. Things looked promising initially but then spiraled downwards. Before Wilson took over, Justin Fields led the team to a 4-2 record. Fields wasn’t perfect but quickly gained fans among coaches and teammates.
A big loss could mean a shift towards Fields. He’s younger and might be cheaper to keep than Wilson, who’s now older and not performing at his best. Fields may lack Wilson’s arm strength but compensates with speed and creativity.
If neither Wilson nor Fields fits long-term plans, Pittsburgh might explore other quarterbacks. Options include Sam Darnold, Kirk Cousins, or even Aaron Rodgers. They could also look into drafting new talent like Jaxson Dart or Carson Beck.
Russell Wilson might still return next season, yet it feels much less certain than before.
