The Dallas Cowboys lost their 2023 season in a sad and quick way at AT&T Stadium during the NFC Wild Card Round. They were beaten by the Green Bay Packers, 48-32, which was a big chance for them to learn from their mistakes, but they didn’t seem to take it.
In Week 2 of the 2024 season, when they played at home for the first time, it looked like nothing had changed since January.
After losing badly to the New Orleans Saints, the Cowboys didn’t do any better in Week 3 against the Baltimore Ravens. Two losses in a row at home have left fans worried, but there’s hope as they face another game soon.
The Cowboys will play against the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium on Thursday Night Football. Last season, Dallas easily beat the Giants twice, but this year might be different with a stronger Giants defense.
The Giants’ defense showed great potential in Week 3 by sacking Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson eight times. NBC Sports noted that this was their highest sack total in one game since 2014.
It’s not just about stopping one player; nine different Giants players contributed to those sacks. The Browns could only gain 217 yards of offense.
However, the Giants’ defense isn’t unbeatable. They’ve allowed an average of 318 yards per game, which is just middle-of-the-pack in the league. If Dallas can protect Prescott from sacks, he should find chances to connect with CeeDee Lamb.
On the flip side, Dallas’s defense hasn’t been impressive either, giving up an average of 29.7 points per game—third worst in the league.
While much attention will be on Malik Nabers and Trevon Diggs’ rivalry, both defenses need to step up. If New York pressures Prescott well enough, they might win this primetime showdown.
Both teams have only won one out of their first three games this season. A loss here could seriously hurt playoff hopes for either team.
The Giants face a tough challenge getting their second win against Dallas. Historically, they’ve struggled against them with only 47 wins out of their 120 meetings. Since 2017, Dallas has dominated with wins in 13 out of their last 14 matchups—including two big victories last year where New York lost by scores of 40-0 and 49-17.
