The Green Bay Packers have a problem with their quarterback. Jordan Love, who did really well last season, is not practicing because he wants a new contract.

Love is at the training camp but won’t practice until he gets paid more.

Even though he’s there to avoid fines, his agent has told the Packers’ general manager that Love won’t play without a new deal. Meanwhile, the team has to depend on two young quarterbacks to take over during practice.

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said second-year quarterback Sean Clifford and rookie Michael Pratt will share the practice reps while Love sits out. According to Packers reporter Ross Uglem, Clifford will get the first chance to be the starter.

LaFleur even mentioned that offensive assistant Sean Mannion might take snaps if needed. It’s never a good sign when you consider using an assistant coach as a player.

Love will attend meetings but won’t help much on the field with Clifford leading the offense. The Packers need to resolve this quickly and get Love back in action.

Last year, Love shined as the team’s top quarterback. He ended the season strong with impressive stats: 2,150 passing yards, 18 touchdowns, and only one interception in the last eight games.

The Packers are working on a new contract for Love, likely around $50 million per year. Other quarterbacks like Jared Goff and Trevor Lawrence got similar deals recently.

But there’s some worry about giving such a big contract based on one good season. In the first half of 2023, Love had some struggles with accuracy and decision-making.

His interception against the San Francisco 49ers in a crucial playoff game was particularly concerning.
