The Dallas Cowboys have a big decision to make about their star player, Dak Prescott. He’s really good at football and might get a lot of money to keep playing for the team.
It’s a hefty price tag, no doubt.
Now, Jerry Jones, the guy who owns the Cowboys, seems a bit unsure about giving Dak such a huge paycheck. It’s like when you want that giant ice cream cone, but your mom raises an eyebrow at the price. Meanwhile, the Cowboys haven’t been spending much money on new players. They’ve only picked up one new guy, Eric Kendricks, and have been more focused on keeping some of their current players around.
But, some of their important players might not come back. Even though the team is still strong, they might not be as good as they were last year. And get this: an NFL bigwig thinks the Cowboys might be doing this on purpose. Mike Sando from The Athletic chatted with some secret NFL bosses. They talked about all the teams, but one boss had a sneaky suspicion about the Cowboys.
“If the guy wants $60 million a year, you know what we are going to do instead?” one exec mused. “We are going to have an average team, and you are going to play worse and we are going to get you at a better price.”
That’s a bit sneaky, isn’t it? It’s like saying, “If you want a big allowance, we’ll just make sure you have more chores and less time to spend your money.” After a letdown in the playoffs, Jerry Jones said they’d go all out. But it’s been more like they’re barely trying. Still, there’s time for the Cowboys to shake things up with late signings or trades.
And if there’s any truth to that sneaky plan, well, it’s not a great look for Jerry Jones and his team. But then again, when has drama ever been far from the Cowboys?
