Former WWE superstar Virgil has passed away at age 61, his family announced on social media.
Virgil, whose real name was Michael Jones, is most famously known for serving as the bodyguard for the “Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase.
“This is to confirm the sad news about our beloved Meatsauce God and Wrestling Superstar Virgil/Michael Jones has passed away,” the statement on Virgil’s Instagram said. “There is so much to say here and would love to share stories but for now it’s a rough day as our friend is gone.
“We would only ask at this time to remember him as the man that he was. Wishing him all the unlimited pasta in heaven. We love you Mike.”
According to TMZ, Virgil had suffered from several strokes and was diagnosed with dementia in recent years.
Virgil broke into wrestling in 1985 as Soul Train Jones. He would go on to win the AWA International Heavyweight Championship and AWA Southern Tag Team Championship alongside Rocky Johnson, who is the father of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
After gaining superstardom as DiBiase’s bodyguard, he would turn on the Million Dollar Man in 1991 and defeated him at WrestleMania VII. A few months later, Virgil defeated DiBiase for the Million Dollar Championship at SummerSlam.
Our deepest condolences go out to Virgil’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.
