Michael Penix Jr, Landon Jackson Named Week 7 Maxwell Players Of The Week

With the college football season in full swing, the Maxwell Football Club is continuing to roll out its weekly honors. Following Week 7 of the 2023 campaign, the Maxwell Football Club announced its latest Maxwell Award Player of the Week and Bednarik Award Player of the Week.

The Maxwell Award Player of the Week will be recognized for overall performance on offense, defense, or special teams. The Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week, meanwhile, will be honored for outstanding defensive play.

Maxwell Award Player of the Week honors went to Washington star quarterback and Heisman Trophy front-runner Michael Penix Jr., who completed 22-of-37 passes for 302 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception in the Huskies’ big win over No. 9 Oregon.

Defensive honors, meanwhile, went to Arkansas defensive lineman Landon Jackson, who recorded career highs in tackles (11), solo tackles (7), sacks (3.5), and TFLs (3.5) in a hard-fought loss to No. 11 Alabama.

The 6-foot-7 Jackson became the first Arkansas defender to sack the quarterback more than three times in a game since 2013.

Maxwell Award Player of the Week: Michael Penis Jr, QB, Washington

Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. has been named Maxwell Award player of The Week after their stunner against the No. 9 Oregon Ducks. Penix would have an impressive day throwing 22-for-37 attempts for 302 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception. His performance would also aid in adding to Washington’s all time wins (62) against Oregon, bringing their all time record to 62-to-48. The Huskies are back home this weekend to host Arizona State this Saturday, Oct. 21 at 7:30 p.m. PT.


Bednarik Award Player of the Week: Landon Jackson, DE, Arkansas

Arkansas defensive end Landon Jackson has been named Bednarik Player of The Week after a hard fought loss to No. 11 Alabama on the road. The 6 ‘7 281 junior was electric, earning career highs in tackles (11), solo tackles (7), sacks (3.5), and TFLs (3.5). The Texas native would also become the first Arkansas defender to sack the quarterback over 3 times in a game since 2013.
