Jessica Pegula wanted to set the record straight.
On Labor Day, Pegula suffered a loss in the US Open Round of 16 to fellow American Madison Keys. After the match, The Tennis Podcast sent out a tweet claiming that Pegula walked off of the court crying.
When speaking to the media, Pegula called out the podcaster and corrected them on their inaccurate reporting.
“Were you guys the ones that tweeted that I cried when I walked off the court?” Pegula asked. “I’m pretty sure it was you guys. I definitely wasn’t crying; I just got waxed in an hour.”

The podcaster had no response.
Despite being silent when confronted with the question, the podcaster took to social media to correct their own reporting.
“Jessica Pegula clarified to us just now that she was not crying as she left the court,” the correction read. “I was on BBC commentary at the time, saw her touch her eye as she left, and also thought she was wiping a tear away, but it was just something in her eye. Wanted to set that straight.”

Rushing to get out a salacious tweet usually tends to backfire, as The Tennis Podcast has learned.
As for Pegula, she has moved on from the Round of 16 loss and will now turn her attention towards the women’s doubles quarterfinals and mixed doubles semifinals today, Wednesday, September 6.
Pegula and Coco Gauff are the No. 3 seed and will face Hsieh Su-wei and Wang Xinyu in the afternoon before Pegula teams up with Austin Krajicek as the No. 1 seed in mixed doubles to take on Ben Shelton and Taylor Townsend in an all-American clash later in the evening.
